International Conference "Bridging the Gap: Texts, Commentaries and the new Audience" (27-29 July 2023)
The study of commentaries (sharḥ, ḥawāshī, nukat) has steadily increased in recent years. Yet many aspects of this genre of scholarly writing, its function and its context need further research. The international conference "Bridging the Gap: Texts, Commentaries and the new Audience" (27th-29th July 2023) puts into focus the complicated intellectual intermediary role of commentators in a social setting. The event is jointly organized with the Center for Middle Eastern Studies and the University of Toronto.The conference programme is available here.
